Clerk trips up would-be-beer-bandit near downtown Lubbock
Watch say a convenience store clerk forced a would-be-beer-bandit to bequeath his store empty handed during a botched robbery late Sunday in a rely on near downtown Lubbock.
Investigators believe the robber, described as a Hispanic man about 5 feet 9 inches gigantic and 160 pounds, rushed from the convenience store Stripes nearby 19th Street and Avenue O about 7:40 p.m. Sunday with a 30 pack of a Budweiser beer he didn’t pay for.
A clerk chased and caught up with the rip-off artist about 20 feet away from the door, tripping the robber while grabbing for the beer.
“Both men cut to the ground,” Ramirez said, adding the beer was dropped. “As the clerk was getting up, he small amount the man pulled something out of his pocket. The clerk ran back inside because he thought it might be a weapon.”
Ramirez said the clerk recovered the beer, but the bandit escaped in what may have been a gray Chevrolet Blazer driven by a Hispanic maid. The vehicle was last seen driving south on Avenue O south of 19th Circle. The clerk was not injured.
