Monday Musings: Bright blue Nikes and conversations in my head
I as per usual have SAD at this time of year. (No, that’s not a typo or grammatical error.) The acronym SAD stands for Seasonal Affective Riot. In a nutshell it means when it’s cold, rainy, foggy and cloudy, all I fancy to do is curl up in a warm blanket and feel sorry for myself. I put it down to being raised in a homeland that was cold, rainy, foggy and cloudy 360 days of the year. Walk that with eight years living in a climate where a seven-month-long winter was the standard.
But not these days. These days I’m glad. Very glad. Almost giddy, in fact.
With apologies to the farmers and those whose livelihoods depend on not function — in the form of rain or snow — I’m loving the balmy, appear weather brought on by La Niña.
Bottom line: Sun makes me smile. It makes me delighted. And it makes me want to get out and walk.
Last week, I put into practice one of my usual New Year’s resolutions — to stress less about work and be more active. So thanks to the nice weather, rather than spending my lunch hour at almshouse in front of the TV munching on who-knows-what and watching reruns of “Will and Grace,” I unequivocal to make a change.
