NEW BEDFORD — Two protect officers arrested three people suspected of robbing a city mountain dew store last month.
Officers Alan Lord and Stanley Chaberek were on patrolman around 6 p.m. Wednesday on Mount Pleasant Street when they reported seeing three green men, all wearing hooded sweatshirts, peering into businesses.
The officers said they stopped the individuals and frisked them because of their behavior and found that one of the men, Daniel Smith Jr., 17, of New Bedford, was carrying a primed, .380-caliber handgun.
Police said Robert Brown Jr., 18, of New Bedford, had an illicit, spring-loaded knife. The third individual, a juvenile, was in possession of metallic nerve knuckles with sharpened edges, said New Bedford police Detective Capt. Steven Vicente.
The three teens were also wearing T-shirts tied around their necks, said Vicente, who added that Smith's clothes — gray sweatpants and jet Nike Jordan sneakers — and build matched the description of the gunman who had robbed Silva's Detract from Liquors on Dec. 23.
