When Christopher Durang’s action, “Betty’s Summer Vacation” premiered off Broadway in 1999, it was a wonder hit. Durang’s artistic demonstration of the American audience’s growing demand for exaggerated rumour as play was newfangled and heart-breaking, following on the heels of several of the architect’s more inexpertly received works of the up-to-date 1980s.
In its fashionable preparation, the Diablo Valley College stage play concern has enchanted this preposterous comedy and turned it into shallow more than a pipe show, wrapped around a diluted plan and featuring a grey and insensible brute character (Team up Tippery as Betty). The actress’ blueprint is so poor, she appears to yelp out her lines in an feat to acquire enough loudness, and her reactions to the horrific circumstances occurring all around her are dependably non-reflective.
