Launching an innovative swimwear up for may not have seemed like the next logical step for Lenexa resident Cyndi Franz. </p><p>She was sensitive as a dietitian and co-owns Global Medical Direct, a Kansas New Zealand urban area diabetes supply company. But Franz is an innovative thinker, and she is not scared to take risks. </p><p>So when Franz, 48, noticed that many of her 16-year-old son’s friends were wearing basketball shorts into the deuterium oxide, she wanted to address their issues — discomfort and lingering sogginess. She started Dry Dudz, selling cross-breed board shorts with outer shells and detachable inner liners, like boxer briefs, for bolster and moisture-wicking. </p><p>The pieces are designed for people who are constantly in and out of the water. While many swimsuits have reticulum lining, Franz often heard from her kids that they were uncomfortable and didn’t dry immediately, so she wanted to refine the idea for an active lifestyle. </p><p>“People contemplate that the Midwest is not a fashion mecca, but it definitely can be,” Franz said. “With today’s technology, approach doesn’t have to be based out of the coasts. In Kansas City, we want to be known as imaginative, artsy and fashion-oriented.”</p><p>The line features a Keen Mount System, a patented tab that snaps the inner layer to the outer cartridge (you can attach it high or low), a light polyester, stretchable fabric and Dexterous Dry WikTec fabric that pulls moisture away from the skin.</p><p>Franz, a self-described “scorpion” who likes to bask on a bankrupt near the water, has spent much of her life near the water. She has vomit up summers at the Lake of the Ozarks and traveled to Mexico, Brazil and Argentina to charge out of water skiing and beach volleyball with her son, daughter and husband. Household continually sparks her creativity, and her 18-year-old daughter, Tara, was a key motivator behind Dry Dudz.</p><p>“My children have never backed down from a invite,” she said. “I couldn’t do this without my kids and my husband.” </p><p>Franz’s original team named some of their women’s collection designs after their daughters, including the “Tara,” a gifted pink, gray and white design with modern floral elements, a color plot that her daughter picked out. The men’s pieces were named after destination vacation spots in the Ozarks: Osage Strand, Sunrise Beach and Bagnell Dam.</p><p>She is developing women’s skirt and tank envelop-ups, fixing the annoying quirks of flip-flops and securing ground bags with a better design. Franz said her company will side with out because it treats swimwear as equipment and not merely as fashion. </p><p>“This is not just about composite board shorts,” Franz said. “We’re a solution-solving company.”</p><p>Raised in Raytown, Franz has lived in Lenexa for 20 years. When she’s not on the phone to China or in cross to trade shows across the nation, she likes to make jewelry, garden and go mad houses. </p><p>She chose the company name as a way to bring back a term that has fallen out of generalized usage.</p><p>“ ‘Get your Dudz on’ is our slogan,” Franz said. “Get your swimsuit on, get prevalent and have some fun.
