Bulldogs wrap up tennis match in Berkeley
The Fresno State women's tennis team picked up singles and doubles victories by Marianne Jodoin and Olga Kirpicheva on Sunday to conclude the California Winter Invitational at the Hellman Tennis Complex in Berkeley.
The No. 66 Bulldogs dropped five of seven singles matches against No. 44 Cal Poly. Jodoin, ranked No. 49, knocked off Cal Poly's Alexa Lee 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 singles, and Kirpicheva defeated Gabby Gatewood (Redwood Penetrating) 6-4, 6-2 at No. 3.
In doubles action, Fresno State lost two of three to Saint Mary's with Jodoin and Kirpicheva pleasing 8-6 at No. 1.
Sunbirds women edged in water polo opener
Without considering entering the fourth quarter with a three-goal lead, the Fresno Pacific women's examination polo team allowed four unanswered goals in a 9-8 overtime impairment to Sonoma State in Rohnert Park.
Junior Jaimie Lugo (Buchanan Cheerful) scored three goals and junior Nicolette Haley (Clovis East) added two for the Sunbirds (0-1).
